A Spooktacular Halloween

To get the imaginative juices flowing when it comes to children’s writing and help them to research about a topic, especially in October, the children can research about bats. They then can write about what they learned or do some creative writing based off of what they read and make a story about their bats. The Lesson Plan Diva: Freebie!! Bat Non-Fiction Writing

When children are done with their rough drafts and have made all of their corrections they can then have the final paper which would look like the one featured. For those students who finish early they can decorate their work with the bat or they can create and color the ones that they draw.

Another creative way to get children to write and have fun creating and coloring something would be with this activity. The children use a dice and roll to what their monster would look like then they would have to recreate them. In order to spice up this activity it would be best to have children write about the average day of a monster or what their monster likes to do.

My Monster~An Informative Writing Project & Craftivity: This project is fun and engaging for students at any time of the school year, especially around HALLOWEEN time. Differentiated for grades 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th.

A worksheet to go with the monster activity or any other Halloween story would be like the one below.

Halloween Creative Writing Lesson Plans Story Map Printable Worksheet
This worksheet can be used for students during the revision phase of their stories, or once they are done and they can share them with other students in the class. The worksheet shows the basic outline to follow through a story, not only that but for the children it gives them a guideline and keeps their story from going off track, because we all know children can go on and on and have their stories go in all sorts of directions!

A different activity to do with the children would be to help decorate a door or a bulletin board in the class like the one below.
Not a lesson plan, but a great idea to decorate door or room for Halloween!

Having children make scared faces or faces that they think go with a haunted house can be an activity that leads to a creative writing activity as follows:
Help your little pumpkins learn to organize their thinking and select their best ideas for writing. This lesson focuses on opinion writing.$
They not only have to focus on the features of a haunted house, but they can create a story describing a haunted house that they visited or their characters visited or if they like them or not. The last worksheet can help students compare their writing and make sure they have the important elements of a haunted house like spider webs, and creaky floors!

For the younger students an activity to help group words together, with the use of a spider, can be done in the classroom or sent home for students to work on at home for their weekly word list.
Great idea from the Lesson Plan Diva
Even though spiders are typically only thought about during Halloween, this activity can be useful throughout any part of the year. It helps students recognize the pattern and helps with grouping and spelling.

Most of these activities can be displayed throughout the classroom or on a bulletin board. These activities can make a classroom very decorative and festive!

After this crazy winter is finally over with the start of spring, what more could you ask for!

When we think of the start of spring with warm weather and colorful Easter we all want to be outside. However for the classroom that is not always the best option, with some of these helpful activities can help bring in spring and fun Easter colors inside. Easter doesn't have to be all about hiding candy in different eggs, an interesting way to incorporate candy and eggs could be one of these activities:
FREE - This product includes creative ideas for using plastic Easter eggs in your classroom. The product also includes a printable recording sheet for students to use! This will increase accountability if using the activity at work stations or math tubs.

Easter Egg Matching Activity I recently made this matching activity for my younger kids out of Easter eggs. I bought a pack of 18 eggs from the dollar store and knew I wanted to do something with them, aside from using them for only Easter. First, I made a set using numbers (1-10)

Preschool - match the uppercase with the lowercase :)

These three types of techniques can be useful for different ages and different grade levels.  The first one is the most advanced way to have children practice their addition skills. With the second one they can make it more difficult if the students have to, instead of putting dots to represent the number they can, put tally marks to represent the number. Lastly the last one can be used for younger children to practice their alphabet and be able to match upper case and lower case letters.

A cute way to hold all of the eggs would be to create a something like the following:

Fun Easter Crafts

This bucket would be a good idea because it keeps students in the Easter mood and keeps up with the bunny mood, since it’s an inexpensive art activity to do during an art lesson in class.  Some different art lessons for children could include making bunny ears for children, or creating bunnies out of plates.

These activities have very little materials and has very quick and simple for students to be able to do in class and keeps them very entertained!

Upcycling Play-Doh Containers. Fun and Easy. Good project for Easter or Mother's Day.

A good way to recycle old Play-Doh bottles would be to use it in the classroom in order to get children to have something to take home to their parents. Not only that but it can also serve to help students understand the different parts of a flower!

How about a creative way to decorate a bulletin board or a door poster? Try this

Hatching kids bulletin board with student pictures and Easter eggs! Maybe the would learn the verb 'hatching' for the next time they take the WJ-iii

This method could take some time to complete, but it looks totally worth every minute!

Most of these ideas are inexpensive and can be done within a couple of days for students to get the hang of, or to finish but it brings all the fun colors of Spring into the classroom.

Shine Like a Pot o' Gold

I hope everyone had a chance to wear green on Saint Patrick’s Day, or else it would have been one long day of being pinched (especially the students!) There are so many creative ways to decorate a classroom and have activities that truly reflect the meaning of the day. Of course there are the commonly known leprechauns along with the pot of gold, but how about the true meaning of the shamrocks and the meaning of the celebration? It is important to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with the American tradition, but we must also take some time to explain to the children what the meaning behind it all is. In order to help the classroom get a bit of Saint Patrick’s Day love here are some ideas, these work best for a religious school but can also be created for public classrooms as well.
Our preschool march/st Patrick's day bulletin board!

This bulletin board will spread some St. Patrick's Day cheer in your classroom. Click through for instructions-- this is a great idea for creative teachers who want some bright St. Patty's Day decor.

These can help to decorate and help the younger students learn the colors of a rainbow. It can be personal to each class because of the personal pictures or with their hands dipped in different colors of paint. It could be a fun and messy art activity!

To help children understand what the day is all about it is helpful to read to them a short story or a passage that explains the significance of Saint Patrick and why he was important. Then to let children have some fun while giving them an educational lesson, using one of these activities would work just fine.

write about how to catch a leprechaun since one destroyed our room

Having the class learn about Saint Patrick’s Day can not only be taught in the classroom but parents can help as well! Getting parents involved with this activity can be a fun and exciting way to learn more about children and their family dynamic.
I'm lucky because...great send home assignment!

Bee My Valentine

Children learn to be thankful … unfortunately the focus is only once throughout the entire year- Thanksgiving. They should learn to be thankful for everyday they have and for the important people in their lives. Valentine’s Day should be more than just passing out Valentine cards and candy. There are easy ways to incorporate nice things about each classmate in every subject. Not just in the subject material that is taught but by looking at the Bulletin board it can display different things that each student likes about a person or things that are special to each student. In the classroom children can focus on sending home letters to family members that mean a lot to them as well. Finding ways to incorporate the significance of being thankful and bringing the class together can be difficult but here are some examples as to how it may be easier.

These first two can be used to send home to family members and switch the meaning that young children get when it comes to thinking that Valentine’s Day and it only being for their classmates.  A nice reminder of how much a specific person has on each child’s life can help to involve parents more.
