Children learn to be thankful … unfortunately
the focus is only once throughout the entire year- Thanksgiving. They should
learn to be thankful for everyday they have and for the important people in
their lives. Valentine’s Day should be more than just passing out Valentine
cards and candy. There are easy ways to incorporate nice things about each
classmate in every subject. Not just in the subject material that is taught but
by looking at the Bulletin board it can display different things that each
student likes about a person or things that are special to each student. In the
classroom children can focus on sending home letters to family members that
mean a lot to them as well. Finding ways to incorporate the significance of
being thankful and bringing the class together can be difficult but here are
some examples as to how it may be easier.

These first two can be used to send home to family
members and switch the meaning that young children get when it comes to thinking
that Valentine’s Day and it only being for their classmates. A nice reminder of how much a specific person
has on each child’s life can help to involve parents more.

The butterfly heart and the book are perfect for reading
time and art they can focus on the book and write down any important
information or even to write down what they liked about the book and what they
would have changed.
